| 1. Is
flossing necessary?
1. Yes, flossing is necessary to remove plaque
and bacteria between your teeth that can't be
reached by brushing. Bacteria produce toxins
and acids which cause gum disease and tooth decay.
The bacterial plaque will build up again within
24 hours, so you need to floss daily.

When should I bring my child in for the first
dental visit?
You should bring your child in for the first
visit at about age 2 1/2 to 3 years of age, when
all their primary (baby) teeth have erupted,
unless there is an emergency or problem prior
to that. Usually the first visit is primarily
educational.

Which is the best toothbrush?
Use a toothbrush with soft, rounded bristles, and
replace it at least every three months. I am a
big fan of mechanical brushes, such as the ultrasonic
ones which are available. For most people, I think
a mechanical brush will out-perform a manual brush.
Whichever brush you use, brush morning and evening
for at least two minutes each time.

| 4. How
often should I have my teeth cleaned?
This is totally dependent on your health, your
home care and how quickly you build up stain,
tarter and calculus on your teeth. Twice a year
is average, but many people need more frequent
cleanings and some can get by with one per year.
